With all the snow that’s been dumped on us this winter, most of us are eagerly waiting for spring. A tip from our specialists is to get your hearing aids cleaned often. Well-maintained aids last longer with regular tune-ups. And like any investment, hearing aids benefit from careful attention.

At our recommended three-month to six-month follow-up appointments, we are happy to provide you with special tips and tricks on how to keep your hearing aids clean. Wax and moisture are the two major culprits impacting hearing aids’ function. Wax guards can be quickly replaced and microphones can be cleaned with a small brush. There are also hearing aid “dry kits” that can help remove excess moisture.

Hearing aid adjustments are also important to keep on top of, since your hearing changes every year, and you may need an increase in volume or clarity as time goes on. The newer digital hearing aids that connect to mobile devices will make this necessity even more convenient. The user can adjust the levels from their smart phones. (Another unrelated plus: you can stream music right to the aids.)

Even if you think your hearing aids are working perfectly, it’s always a good idea to stick to the six-month check schedule and addressing any potential issues before they arise. Think of it as preparing for the snowstorm – as we all know, it’s important to stay on top of it!
