A letter from Hearing Solutions, office of audiologist Beth Levine

With Thanksgiving just around the corner, many of us are picturing the table we’ll be sitting at—perhaps in our own home or as a guest in someone else’s. We think about the food, the family, and the laughter. For those who live with hearing loss, that picture also includes planning.

To truly connect, you may already be thinking: Which seat will best enable me to understand the conversation?

It’s a valid and vital question. Does your host know you have hearing loss? Will there be extra background noise from the kitchen or a football game on TV? Is there someone you’d like to sit next to, either because you cherish their company or you find their voice easier to understand? Is the room well lit to help with lip reading?

Hearing loss is both invisible and deeply misunderstood.

As a community, we are wonderfully considerate of other needs. We ask our guests about food allergies and if we have a friend who is visually impaired we would never dream of rearranging the furniture they may be accustomed to.

Let’s extend that same compassion and proactive care to hearing health.

This year, let us help you prepare. A little planning can make the difference between simply being at the table and being part of the conversation. From all of us here at Hearing Solutions, we want to help make your holidays the best they’ve ever been.
